I read the reviewsโand they were absolutely right. The chicken tenders are incredibly tender and delicious. I ordered half regular breaded and half garlic parmesan, and both were outstanding. Dining outside in the beautiful Florida weather made the experience even better. Highly recommend!
Overview
Walking into Huey Magoo's Chicken Tenders for the first time, what stood out immediately was how focused the place is on doing one thing really well. Located at 1404 W University Ave Suite 50, Gainesville, FL 32603, United States, this spot sits right where college life and comfort food collide, and that energy carries straight into the dining room. I stopped in during a busy lunch rush, and even with a line forming, the staff kept things moving smoothly without rushing anyone, which says a lot about their day-to-day process.
The menu keeps things refreshingly simple. Instead of overwhelming you with endless options, it centers on hand-crafted chicken tenders made from premium, all-natural chicken. According to USDA data, chicken tenderloin is one of the leanest cuts of poultry, and Huey Magooโs leans into that by avoiding fillers and focusing on quality protein. You can choose your tenders grilled, hand-breaded, or tossed in sauce, which makes it easy to match different tastes or dietary preferences. I tried both the grilled and the classic breaded version, and the contrast was noticeable: the grilled tenders were juicy and clean-tasting, while the breaded ones had a crisp bite that held up even after a few minutes in the box.
One detail regulars often mention in reviews is the breading itself. Itโs seasoned without overpowering the chicken, a balance that culinary experts like those at the National Restaurant Association often highlight as key to comfort food success. Watching the open prep area, you can see the tenders being cooked to order rather than sitting under heat lamps, which explains why they stay moist and flavorful. That made a real difference when I took my meal to go and ate it later between classes.
Sauces are where things get fun. From classic honey mustard to signature Magooโs sauce, each option feels intentional rather than an afterthought. A friend noticed that the sauces are portioned generously, something that aligns with customer feedback across multiple locations. While Huey Magooโs has expanded steadily across the Southeast, each location maintains consistent quality, which isnโt easy to pull off at scale. Restaurant industry analysts often point out that consistency is one of the biggest challenges for growing chains, yet this brand seems to manage it well.
The Gainesville location in particular benefits from its proximity to the University of Florida. Students pop in for quick meals, families drop by for casual dinners, and locals treat it as a reliable stop after work. That mix shows up in online reviews, where people often describe the experience as fresh food fast without sacrificing taste. Another commonly bolded phrase youโll see echoed by regulars is always cooked right, and based on multiple visits, that reputation feels earned.
Pricing stays reasonable, especially considering portion size and quality. With rising food costs nationwide, many restaurants have cut corners, but Huey Magooโs seems committed to maintaining standards. The only limitation worth noting is that the focused menu may not suit someone looking for a wide variety of non-chicken options, though sides like fries, Texas toast, and salads help round things out.
Overall, the Gainesville diner delivers a dependable experience rooted in simple execution, thoughtful preparation, and attention to what customers actually want. From the streamlined menu to the consistently positive reviews, itโs clear why this spot has become a go-to for chicken tender fans in town.

I love coming here for lunch. The chicken tenders are great. I like them grilled or fried. Great dipping sauces. The tenders meal deal on Tuesdays and Thursdays is a very good deal. The specials come with drinks. Large amount of fries. The watermelon tea is a real treat. Never had it anywhere except from Huey's. Jill is the manager. She is always friendly and has awesome customer service skills. Parking can sometimes be a challenge. Overall great lunch spot.
Oh my goodness! This was my second time in this restaurant. This time I got the BEST salad I have ever had in a fast food restaurant. FRESH salad greens, walnuts, cranberries and incredibly delicious chicken pieces. I will be going here EVERY time I am in Gainesville near UF. The staff was great too, out cleaning tables, filling up necessities and SMILING! Please go to this restaurant. Amazing!
This was my second time coming here. Decent tenders, a big amount of fries, and the special is a great deal. I will definitely be back. Big shout out to Jill who is super nice, and very helpful. I have a service dog so it's always nice when a place goes out of the way to make you feel accepted and welcome. Thanks Jill, you're awesome!!!
My sister in law and I stopped here the other day when we were running errands and it was amazing. Pretty cheap for the portions, and I love that the tenders are COVERED in sauce. The only thing I would change is having bigger water cups, and bigger sauce cups for the ranch and blue cheese.
I came in around 10:20pm trying this place out for the first time, the people were lovely, and oh my god. This is some of the best chicken I've had in my life. Had to stop after a few bites to type this out. The garlic parm sauce: amazing, Honey mustard: fantastic, the TENDERS??: gave the word tender a new meaning. I've never had chicken tenders that fell apart almost like pulled pork. 10/10, I'm definitely coming back.
Probably my favorite place to get chicken tenders in Gainesville! My husband and I split the meal for 2 and it is always a large amount of food for each of us. The chicken tenders are very moist and well breaded, and the fries are seasoned well! The staff are friendly and the service is very quick. The only fault with Huey Magooโs is that there is no parking, so you have to find somewhere to street park or walk from campus. There are also not very many seats for how popular it is at lunchtime.
I was able to get two meals from their Thursday special. Atmosphere much quieter than other places. You can actually carry on a conversation
